The two automakers in 2014 established Perodua Global Manufacturing, which had capacity for 100,000 Axias yearly. But Perodua and the Japanese automaker have developed the Bezza, and the recent release of Malaysia first small sedan spurred pgm to add a night shift to boost production. This expanded capacity equates to about 30% of Malaysian annual new-car sales volume.
PGM has used production technology Daihatsu established in Japan to boost cost competitiveness. Daihatsu, which becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota Motor in August, is cultivating compact-car demand in emerging countries based on Japanese minicar technology.
