Data released in early January shows that six major Japanese automakers — including Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda and Mitsubishi — saw combined U.S. passenger vehicle sales rise by about 2.4% in 2025 to over 6 million units. Strong demand for hybrid vehicles, particularly from Toyota, helped offset softer performance in some other segments.
Toyota led the pack with roughly 2.52 million U.S. sales, up around 8%, driven by popular models such as the RAV4, Camry and Corolla, while Honda and Nissan also saw modest gains. Subaru, Mazda and Mitsubishi recorded lower volumes, highlighting uneven momentum across the Japanese brand spectrum.
