Toyota Motor announced that it will introduce three U.S.-manufactured models — the Camry sedan, Highlander SUV, and Tundra pickup — into the Japanese market starting in 2026. The move is partly designed to help ease trade tensions with the United States by increasing purchases of vehicles built stateside, and Toyota said it is studying the logistics, regulatory and marketing frameworks needed to support the reverse imports.
While Japanese consumers have traditionally favoured domestic production, Toyota’s strategy reflects a broader industry effort to balance global production footprints amid shifting tariff and trade conditions. The company has also been expanding U.S. manufacturing, including a major battery plant in North Carolina and planned investments in hybrid vehicle capacity.
