GM Faced 33% Drop in Production of Q3 2020 Due to Chip Shortages
GM dealers shipped 446,997 vehicles in the US in the third quarter of 2021, down 218,195 vehicles (33%) due to supply chain disruptions and historically low inventories. GM was forced to recall about 140,000 Chevy Bolt electric vehicles in August due to reports of a battery fire. The 2017-2019 Bolt EV was first withdrawn in November 2020 for the same reason. During the quarter, GM delivered more than 68,000 vehicles to dealers who stopped at assembly plants due to semiconductor supply problems.
