Local Automakers Demand Delay in Electric Vehicle Policy
Electric vehicle (EV) policy has been under review for some time, as all stakeholders in the local auto industry are trying to reach consensus. The worsening of the coronavirus pandemic has resulted in poor performance in the automotive sector. The government blockade to reduce the spread of COVID-19 has resulted in lower sales for automakers. Leading Japanese automakers such as Pak Suzuki and Honda Atlas have expressed to the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to postpone the implementation of the new hybrid and electric policy. This policy was initially planned for the period 2020-2025.
